‘The Continental’: Katie McGrath, Ray McKinnon Among 5 Cast In Starz’s ‘John Wick’ Prequel Series
By Denise Petski
EXCLUSIVE: Katie McGrath (Supergirl), Ray McKinnon (Rectify) Adam Shapiro (Never Have I Ever), Mark Musashi (Fear of the Walking Dead) and Marina Mazepa (Malignant) have been cast opposite Colin Woodell and Mel Gibson in Starz’s The Continental, the prequel to the Keanu Reeves film series John Wick. The Continental will be presented as a three-night special-event TV series, produced for Starz by Lionsgate Television.
In addition to Woodell and Gibson, the five join previously announced cast members Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada, Nhung Kate and Ben Robson.
McGrath will play The Adjudicator; McKinnon portrays Jenkins; Shapiro is Lemmy; and Musahi and Mazepa will play High Table assassins Hansel & Gretel.
Executive producers Greg Coolidge (Wayne, Ride Along) and Kirk Ward (Wayne) are writing the event series and serve as showrunners. Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Derek Kolstad, David Leitch, Shawn Simmons, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese will also serve as executive producers.
McGrath recently wrapped filming the role of Lena Luther in the CW’s Supergirl. Her other TV credits include Dracula and BBC’s Merlin. On the film side, she has been seen in Jurassic World and in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of The Sword. McGrath is repped by A3 Artists Agency and Hamilton Hodell in the UK.
McKinnon is best known as the creator of the Peabody Award-winning series Rectify. As an actor, he has appeared in FX’s Sons of Anarchy in the role of Lincoln Potter, and in a reprisal of the role in FX’s Mayans MC. He recently wrapped the Fox limited series Dopesick.
Shapiro’s credits include the role of Mr. Shapiro in Mindy Kaling’s Netflix series Never Have I Ever. On the film side, he was most recently seen in Mank.
Musashi began his career as a member of the Tokyo-based AAC Stunts. His television credits include Fear of the Walking Dead, Iron Fist and The Last Ship.
Mazepa’s film credits include Malignant and The Unholy and a recurring role in The Girl In The Woods, which is streaming on Peacock.

Katie McGrath Joins John Wick Prequel Series The Continental at Starz
By Vlada Gelman / February 8 2022,
Katie McGrath has booked her first post-Supergirl role: The actress will co-star in Starz’s forthcoming John Wick prequel series The Continental as The Adjudicator, our sister site Deadline reports.
Produced by Lionsgate Television, the three-night event takes John Wick fans back to 1975 New York City, where a young criminal named Winston Scott (The Flight Attendant‘s Colin Woodell) navigates the city’s nefarious underbelly in an attempt to take control of The Continental, a notorious hangout for all manner of ne’er-do-wells.
In addition to McGrath — who is coming off a five-season stint as Lena Luthor on The CW’s Supergirl — the series has also cast Ray McKinnon (Mayans M.C.) as Jenkins, Adam Shapiro (Never Have I Ever) as Lemmy, and Mark Musashi and Marina Mazepa as High Table assassins Hansel & Gretel.
As previously reported, Mel Gibson will play a character named Cormac. The ensemble also includes newcomer Ayomide Adegun as Charon (played in the movies by Lance Reddick), Peter Greene (The Mask) as Uncle Charlie (who is perhaps the cleaner played on film by David Patrick Kelly), and Jeremy Bobb (Russian Doll) as Mayhew. Mishel Prada (Vida), Ben Robson (Animal Kingdom), Hubert Point Du-Jour (The Good Lord Bird), Jessica Allain and Nhung Kate round out the cast.
The John Wick film franchise, which stars Keanu Reeves as a mafia-trained assassin, has so far included three theatrical releases (2014, 2017 and 2019) with a fourth set to be released in 2022. Along with Reeves and Ian McShane, the films star the likes of Anjelica Huston, Halle Berry, John Leguizamo and Laurence Fishburne.

I just wanted to ask whether we should expect a new interview with Katie McGrath? You’ve interviewed her in the past for Supergirl, and it’d be lovely to know you spoke again and hear her thoughts about The Adjudicator and The Continental! –Paula
Because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, no, I didn’t get to check in with my bezzie mate. But I did make sure to express to The Continental EP Albert Hughes my very personal dissatisfaction with McGrath’s meager screen time in the John Wick prequel miniseries! (And we won’t even talk abut her final scene.) Hughes chuckled and was quick to respond, “Listen, I text with [Katie] every night. We’re really good friends after this shoot and I hear from her fans, so I know. I have a plan for her. Trust me, I have a big plan for her.”

The series was pretty cool, as a fan of the John Wick movies I enjoyed it. Over the three episodes Katie was in four scenes totaling maybe 10 minutes. As she tends to do she stole all of them. I do think the advertising was deceptive and overstated Katie’s part. My expectations for how much screen time she would have were low and I would have watched as a fan of the Wick movies anyway so I’m not disappointed.
Katie’s Adjudicateor was cold and menacing and scared everyone she came in contact with. She achieved that with her eyes and voice kinda like Sam Witwear did with only his voice as Agent Liberty. The makeup artist did an incredible job on Katie’s eye makeup, I want a how to video.

We now have premier dates for the three parts of The Continental, per Deadline
9/22/2032 - episode 1 - Night 1
9/29/2023 - episode 2
10/6/2023 - episode 3
I don’t really expect Katie to have much screen time but we’ll see. I’m sure she steals the scenes she’s in. I like the John Wick movies so I expect I’ll enjoy this know matter how much Katie’s in it.

The John Wick prequel series is now gunning for the Peacock streaming service, and not Starz.
Peacock and Lionsgate announced on Monday that The Continental, the three-part “special event” that was originally developed for Starz, instead will premiere exclusively on Peacock in 2023.
This is good for me because I have Peacock but not Starz.
