Another precious episode of Supergirl tonight! They feel like they are slipping thought our fingers with there being so few left! One bright spot to keep your eye on, however, is that even after Supergirl is over, Chyler Leigh's Alex Danvers is set to appear in the five part Flash Armageddon event! While not Supergirl, her sister is the next best thing! Looking to the episode tonight, Supergirl and team destroyed the hope totem and that has to have consequences. Does Lex provide Nyxly the ability to reform the totem? Can it be retrieved from the sun somehow? What causes National City to be put under some kind of dome? All good questions with answers, here's what stood out to us:
- New Totem Race: The search for the dream totem is stalled when Nia learns that her sister took all her mother's books and ran off. Nia has a vision that could lead to a break in her search. Nyxly searches for the secret admirer, but finds out that there is a voice who claims to be her and knows her innermost secrets. At the super tower they are discussing the diplomatic negotiations at the civic center, between the rivaling countries from last episode. Nia knocks on the door of a Professor Neeve and is floored to find out it’s her sister. The sisters have an icy conversation that leads nowhere. Nxy arrives at National City Dreams Institute to retrieve a totem from a sleeping man. Supergirl and team try to stop her, but with the help of her new gauntlet, she escapes. A nightmare monster manifests itself in the city, heading towards a nuclear power plant. In order to defend the population, Lena traps the monster in a dome.
- The Dream Totem: Nia discovers her sisters practice and the pair begin to try and find where the totem might be. Nia decided to invite her sister on her quest to find the dream totem. Team Supergirl discover what Nyxly's plan was. They are attempting to replicate Nyxly's tech to go in after her. Supergirl has to go back to Catco for her interview practice. Nia and Maeve wander the forest to find Maeve's necklace glows in the forest, this leads them to the door to the dreamscape. The door closes behind them. In the dreamscape, there are these spires that represent all the dreams on Earth. Only one has the totem and Nia and her sister can find it, Nyxly, at the behest of her new AI follows them in secret.
- Government Intervention: The Superfriends are being blamed for their dome. They operate outside the law and the law is starting to get tired of the action without clearance. Nia and Maeve find the spire that has the totem. They have a while to walk to get to it but they were able to see it. Supergirl struggles with her secret identity. Her duties as Supergirl are overriding her job and her job is starting to say it's not ok. Supergirl has to hang up the cape for the interview she arranged.
- One Hour: The dome is coming down in an hour no matter what. Supergirl is stressed because she can't be in two places at once. In the dreamscape, Maeve makes a play to get the Dream totem. She is found unworthy and her deception is revealed to Nia. Nia gives it back to her sister for being so selfish when Nyxly appears to take the totem.
- Dreamer vs Nyxly: Dreamer fights Nyxly in the dreamscape. Dreamer is about to lose when Maeve gives Nia the necklace and that supercharges her. She blasts Nyxly but she escapes with the totem. Supergirl needs to stay put for the interview but she leaves to help when the dome goes down. The dream monster reappears and the government attacks it drawing it away from the trap team Supergirl set up. Supergirl is able to push the monster into the portal but Kara misses the interview.
In the final wrap up moments, Kara reflects on her mistake in missing the interview. Andrea gives Kara a second chance. Kara offers the interview to William and she quits Catco. She turns around as Supergirl and asks that William help her speak directly to the people of National City. Nia and Maeve walk out of the forest but Nia is hurt by what Maeve said and did. Maeve asks for forgiveness but finds none from Nia. Instead, Nia offers Maeve a final chance to be sisters one last time. Supergirl addresses the city and asks for forgiveness. She dedicates herself to stopping Nyxly at any cost. Nyxly then meets Lex! Check out the preview for next week's all new episode below:

Although I've found Andrea's character to be interesting in many ways, I've always hated how incompetent she is at not being able to tell the huge and crucially important difference between a legitimate new service and social media sites. So if she were to decide to get out of the news business by the end of the show I won't be sorry to see her go. But who would take her place as the new owner? Would Lena buy CatCo back?
Maybe there's another way for that to end. I know that this would be a real stretch, but what if Cat Grant were to buy CatCo back from Andera? It would certainly be a 'full circle' way to tie up those loose ends between Cat and Kara.
I don't really expect to see that happening, but with all of the speculation that's going on with the ending of the show, no one has brought this up as a possibility, however much of a long-shot it is.
I agree with many others that seeing Nia and Maeve finally face each other was way overdue and, given what happened to cause the estrangement, I thought it was very well done.
I'm not sure that William knows Kara's secret - yet - but expect that to come out before the end of the show.
The intro also really brought the nostalgia.Especially so close to the end of the series.
Nia's reunion with her sister was interesting. I think that needed to happen before the show ends.
So glad we are getting a green Brainy.
The opening sequence is always welcome. Do they use it when the episode is running a bit short? The current one gives S&L a little plug.
I still can't help but wonder if Kara will be part of the Allston.
Heading to the home stretch.
Well, now that you've mentioned it... :)
...seems the intro was strategically re-introduced to provide context for where Kara would wind up by the end of the episode. It was actually revisiting a theme from Season Two, wherein Kara originally thought that she 'could have it all',
...only to find out that she COULDN'T, and had to give up Mon-El for the greater good of National City.

I was not expecting Kara to quit CatCo. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays into Kara’s ending. I believe this is the first time where being Supergirl has caused Kara to truly mess up at CatCo and that may have shaken her. Side note there were a couple of Cat Grant references and those are always appreciated.
The Nal sisters story needed some resolution. What Maeve said to Nia in season four was horrible so I’m glad Nia didn’t simply forgive Maeve. Nia has every right to cut her sister out of her life but I’m glad she didn’t just yet. Nia gave Maeve a second chance not because she necessarily deserved it but because cutting someone who you love out of your life hurts many people. You have to feel for their Dad who right or wrong made the decision to keep the fact that Maeve took all their Mom’s things. It is sometimes necessary to cut people out of your life if having them in it causes you more pain than having them out of it. Nia and Maeve may never be as close as they once were, but Nia decided having her sister in her life in some way was what she wanted. TBH I’m not sure if I would have felt the same especially after Maeve tried to take the Totem. I know the writers consulted Nicole on “Reality Bytes” I wonder if they asked her if she thought Nia should’ve walked away from her sister.
The conflict between Nia and Maeve was also well handled and it came to a very satisfactory conclusion.
Quoting jacksc01: "The writers win - I will not be looking for any additional heart to heart talks of any depth or length between Alex & Kara for the remaining episodes. Instead, I will look at the in depth talks that have and probably will continue between Alex & Kelly; Brainy & Nia; William & Kara, Lex & Nyxly. The writers are consistent in lack of sister scenes right to the end."
Actually, I think there will be some great Kara/Alex moments yet to come, especially on the final double episode. I think they are getting some of these other conversations wrapped up now, while saving the best for last.
Yes, I agree and will also point out that the writers never used Melissa's extraordinary talent when writing these episodes from the very start. You have in your arsenal a freaking Bazooka locked and loaded. She can act, sing and dance. Would it have hurt to have her singing and dancing to the radio while dusting in her loft? My God, in six years you couldn't come up with anything to showcase her talent? The only time they shot the big gun was in the crossover during season 2 with the music guy. This was without a doubt the best crossover because you had your Mickey Mantle at bat with the bases loaded. And you know what.....She hit a grand slam.
Alex - I loved the pictures that Esme drew. I liked the one very short "pep talk" between her and her sister. Note: Alex has had more heart to heart talks with Kelly that were longer & more in depth.
William - His heart to heart talk was more meaningful for Kara then Alex's was. I think he knows Kara's identity.
Andrea - was finally helpful for a change. Her compliments to Kara on her talents tell me that all her firing threats in the past were really just talk. She knows she has a good team.
Brainy - At first I wondered why he was being green most of the time until I heard it said that it was because of William being at the Tower. Since William seems to pop into the tower whenever he wants (a real lack of security there -notice SuperGirl was surprise to see him), Brainy will be green most of the time.
SuperGirl/Kara - I think this was the turning point when Supergirl realizes her calling being the protector of National City. Of course when she comes to this realization (something that determines the rest of her life), we see that the talk when she determines this is with William and not Alex.
The writers win - I will not be looking for any additional heart to heart talks of any depth or length between Alex & Kara for the remaining episodes. Instead, I will look at the in depth talks that have and probably will continue between Alex & Kelly; Brainy & Nia; William & Kara, Lex & Nyxly. The writers are consistent in lack of sister scenes right to the end.
I'm still very confused by this whole thread of Kara wanting to bring down Nyxly "at all costs", which seems bound to be the kind of thing that's a bad idea and also still confused by the thread of how Nyxly acquires totems and the ways the heroes kind of fall short sometimes.
Quote: I was never opposed to this idea, but with the show establishing in the past the Kara revealing her identity makes Alex a target combined with Alex now having a family that might get targetted by Nyxly that seems more questionable than ever. Alex has even more to protect now. Like in the past you could say Alex is a big strong hero, she can take care of herself, but now she has a whole young family to protect.
